Brent Council has announced that it will ring fence land in the borough in order to enable the development of affordable homes for the community.
The confirmation that the land will be ring fenced for affordable housing is a significant milestone for Brent CLT and Brent Council, as it demonstrates a shared vision and commitment to creating more affordable housing options in London through community-led initiatives.
“We’re so pleased to be working with Brent Council and the local community to realise our vision of delivering much-needed homes in Brent. We can’t wait to see how a community led approach to the design, planning and management of homes at this site can help us deliver more affordable housing for local people controlled by local people.”
– Atara Fridler, Chair of Brent CLT
This major milestone will enable Brent CLT to now commence the next phase of planning for the development of the land in close consultation with the local community to help fully realise the potential of the site.
Brent Community Land Trust was established in 2020 and is an independent, not for profit, membership organisation seeking to provide affordable housing in the borough of Brent.
The community land trust model is gaining popularity in both London and more widely across the UK as a way to provide affordable housing while also ensuring that the community has a say in how their neighbourhoods are developed.
With high demand for housing in areas like Brent, community-led housing can offer an affordable solution, whilst ensuring the opinions of those within the community are reflected in new developments in their neighbourhoods.
